August 26 & 27, 2017 - Genesis 32:24-32 - Everyone loves a good fight blockbuster. Well, when the great Patriarch Jacob wrestled with an angel it was a fight to the finish. He just wouldn't let go until he'd been blessed. And he was changed forever. When we wrestle with God, do we persist until we too are blessed? Because when we do, then like Jacob we become new in Christ.
August 19 & 20, 2017 - Jonah 1-4 - It's a story almost as old as time. Jonah, a man call by God, ran away from God and then was gobbled up by a giant fish. But that wasn't the end of Jonah's story - it was just the beginning. This weekend, we'll learn that the story of Jonah is a story we're still part of today. After all, when God calls us how will we respond?
August 12 & 13, 2017 - 2 Samuel 23:11-12 -Every once in awhile there's that blockbuster of a story that sneaks up on you. There's no great battle, no special effects. This weekend we meet Shammah. We don't know much about him except that when God's land was attacked, he stood alone and defended the field - and won. Sometimes the real blockbuster is one man taking a stand for God.
August 5 & 6, 2017 - Judges 14-16 - Samson. His story is the stuff of legends. He performed superhuman acts for God that made him a household name throughout the land. The perfect hero of the perfect blockbuster, yes? No. Ultimately, Samson's weakness overtook his strength. This weekend we take a fascinating look at one of the great Bible heroes and we'll learn how we can avoid his pitfalls as we seek to become heroes for Christ.
